Pheasant Hunting with Pointing Dogs
Pheasant hunting with pointing dogs! We took a trip to Fox Ridge Game Farm in Wisconsin to hunt with our buddy Todd and his one year old English Setter “Hank”. Hank is a dog out of Northwoods Bird Dogs, and did a great job pointing roosters on this hunt. Although this was a great hunt, we went into this rooster hunt with the mind set that we were training with this pointing dog.
Wisconsin rooster hunting with pointing dogs is a ton of fun, and true to Wisconsin weather, we ended up hunting in a snowstorm and extreme winds. These conditions made scenting a bit tough for Hank, but he ended up putting the pieces together.

She is an excellent hip or family partner, and suffers relatively few diseases. With its sense of humor and its animated nature, it is a good combination for an energetic family that a dog seeks to be part of its daily activities. The marked wire tap was originally used for hunting and would be framed, aim and recover water birds, hunting birds and even hares. She has been described as the “supreme huntag” and is still actively used in this paper. She is also an excellent family partner and enjoys any type of work. Many taps have been successful in agility, monitoring and obedience.

If he figures out he can’t catch it, it’s actually gonna bring out his natural pointing instinct. Now, you may be asking yourself now why this is a problem. The biggest thing that becomes an issue is that it’s 100% sight-driven pointing. Our bird dogs of today, especially those that live in an urban environment, have learned, and through the development of the, even the breeding of the dogs today, that sight becomes almost more important than scent, especially through that development process. Like I said, living in an urban environment.
