Cool dog blind
The German Wirehaired Pointer is an elite Upland game bird hunter. Wirehairs are a great hunting dog, very adept at hunting, pionting and retrieving game.
In California CIty the AKC held a multi breed field test in California City, Ca. Among the breeds present were German Wirehairs, Shorthairs, Vizsla, and Brittanies.
I was able to catch up with Cathie Magoon, who has been breeding WIrehairs for over 20 years. She shared a wealth of information on the breed’s history, standard, healthy and temperament.

Wire Haired Pointing Griffon vs German Shorthaired Pointer | Which One Is Right For You?
Today we are taking a look at the Wire Haired Pointing Griffon. I’m no expert on the breed, but I though you guys might like me to give you a brief overview of what I know and then compare and contrast the WPG to the German Shorthaired Pointer.
For more information about the breed be sure to check out the American Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Association!
From the AWPGA website:
The Griffon is a very people oriented dog known for its trainability and high degree of cooperation. Although the Griffon has a great love for the field and is an excellent swimmer, it is equally at home in the obedience and show ring. With its keen nose it is also a natural at tracking. The fun loving side of its personality enjoys agility training. The Griff’s outgoing personality makes it a wonderful family pet and great with children. Overall, the Griffon is one of the best-kept secrets in the Sporting Group and is the ultimate VERSATILE hunting companion.

Wirehaired Pointing Griffon – The Supreme Hunting Dog, An Overview of Griffons #wpg
Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Overview from a real Wirehaired Pointing Griffon owner and trainer in Oxford, Mississippi, USA. The supreme hunting dog, Korthals Griffon, Russian Setter, Wirehaired Griffon or even Chewbacca, this Versatile hunting dog goes by a few names but has one purpose: reliably locate and point out prey, track wounded or dead prey, and retrieve prey. on land and water (which is more than one purpose). Griffs do this surprisingly well despite their relaxed demeanor and soft, expressive appearance and disposition. I got my first Wirehaired Pointing Griffon (Dublin) in 2017 from breeders Michael and Mary Drapeau of Dubuque, Iowa, and I am sold on this unusual hunting dog. I’ve worked with dozens of these versatile pointers and am amazed at how suitable they can be as family pets while also being effective hunters. I post a lot of bird dog videos on this channel, mostly Wirehaired Pointing Griffons, but occasionally German Shorthaired Pointers, German Wirehaired Pointers, and (hopefully) Gordon Setters. If you have a sample wirehaired faucet, let me know in the comments some peculiar things your faucet does. I may feature it in a future video! Thanks for watching. First Season of Bird Hunting with a Dog: A Story About the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon
The first bird season with a dog is full of good and bad, but it’s all part of an incredible journey. This is the creative director of Project Upland, AJ DeRosa’s first season with his wire-haired sample griffon. A rollercoaster of failures and victories that highlights our love for bird dogs. “These autumn days belong to him now. I can no longer call these cuts my own. The joy found in the silence of a bell and the lifting of wings in a deafening forest is like the song of a siren. And when I realize How short they are, their lives become even more imminent. Time will reveal the unfair treatment between me and my best friend, but although I fear that on that day, you will never be able to exchange the now. Our memories together will live on, we will always have our first. season. “. This film is brought to you by OnX Hunt: And by Dogtra E-Collars: For more information on pointers and bird hunting, see: This is a Northwoods collective production:
