Accelerated Dog Training: Backing and Whoa in 2 Days?!?!

9 month old pointer, Nellie, who had no exposure to birds until a couple of days before this video was shot is quickly taught the concepts of backing (aka honoring) a pointing dog and whoa. Backing is taught by associating that the sight of a pointing dog means the presence of game, and whoa is taught by associating by sound that whoa also means the presence of game.

Each concept, backing/honoring and whoa, is taught in two days and with fewer than 10 birds and with zero pressure applied whatsoever.

Our 4 German German pointers; 2 It’s 6 months and we are training them for 2 months

We have 3 children of our Midnight Turbo All Black bolt! Of 2 different litters. 2, Eli, the solid liver with the chest and Elton, the white and liver PTCHD, Tickd, born on July 15, 2024. They are directed to train for 2-3 months in live bobwhite with one of our owners and friends, Daron Galbreath from southeast Kansas! We are offering them at this time, before they go to the north, in a less inalized puppy! When they have finished, we will offer one of them for consideration at a very fair price for a pedigree with 7 generations of Nstra and Gundog champions, including the legend of Hof Nstra, Crosswind Truckin Fritz, with 93 incredible champions in their blood line descending. The great liver bolt is our Huckleberry, he is a Pearl Harbor Litter male, the only one of 4. Then going up for a live bobwhite work as well. These are AKC, Cubs, whose mother Annie, is the daughter of Nstra 16x champion, Beam Me Up Scotty, who is the son of Crosswinds Microchip, also a two -digit title holder! German Shorthaired Pointer Rizzo at 12 weeks old : Impressive point!

Rizzo is my 12 week old German Shorthaired Pointer out of Nickel Creek Gun Dogs. This was his first training session with John Augustine. I can’t believe how long he held point with his head held high at such a young age and then to finish it off with a full retrieve bird in hand. I love my German Shorthaired Pointer! Thanks to John Augustine at Nickel Creek Gun Dogs and Kiowa Creek Sporting Club!

Ellie’s OLAP Surprise! | Oklahoma Quail Hunting

Such a great day afield! At the close of a 12 mile day today Ellie Mae found this covey of public land bobwhite way back deep on a tract of OLAP property. I shot one of the first two birds up but what you don’t see on the left side of this clip is the 10 other birds that flushed. It’s been tough hunting this year and is great to see nice coveys on public ground.

Episode 17 Review of the Tripp Spring Field Testing Season

Episode 17 of The Trials & Tribulans of Tripp reviews its spring field test season of 2017. Tripp and I compete in the open puppy and the Derby open in 4 field tests This spring for a total of 8 bets. To any extent, we had a lot of success in each event that we competed and went out with 3 victories. With Tripp’s victory in Open Puppy and Open Derby, he has received the maximum of 2 points in each towards his field championships. Tripp will now go to Quail Canyon by Josh Nieman in Nebraska for his very instructive puppy program in May and then travel for a more formal horse training in the Dakotas later in the summer. Wire Haired Pointing Griffon vs German Shorthaired Pointer | Which One Is Right For You?

Today we are taking a look at the Wire Haired Pointing Griffon. I’m no expert on the breed, but I though you guys might like me to give you a brief overview of what I know and then compare and contrast the WPG to the German Shorthaired Pointer.

For more information about the breed be sure to check out the American Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Association!

From the AWPGA website:

The Griffon is a very people oriented dog known for its trainability and high degree of cooperation. Although the Griffon has a great love for the field and is an excellent swimmer, it is equally at home in the obedience and show ring. With its keen nose it is also a natural at tracking. The fun loving side of its personality enjoys agility training. The Griff’s outgoing personality makes it a wonderful family pet and great with children. Overall, the Griffon is one of the best-kept secrets in the Sporting Group and is the ultimate VERSATILE hunting companion.
