February 2025 Wild Bird Update: Surviving Winter and Start Nesting

While the month of February can be brutal for wild birds, they are also reacting to the lengthening of daylight hours. Some birds begin their early Spring migration and many are starting their first nesting cycle.

Dot and Ellie Mae in New Mexico | New Mexico Quail Hunting

Here’s a few clips showing my two dogs, Dot and Ellie Mae, pointing Gambel’s and Scaled Quail in New Mexico in December of 2022. The Gambel’s were plentiful, tricky and fast. We had to work harder to find the Blues but they were super sporty as well. The terrain was rougher than we have here in Oklahoma but the views were spectacular. #bobwhitehunting #birdhunting #bobwhite_hunting #birddog #scaled_bobwhite #gambels_bobwhite #desertbirds #wanderingwingshooter

Canine Diseases & Treatment : How to Tell If a Dog Has Worms

To tell if a dog has worms, take the animal to a veterinary clinic, where fecal tests and a physical exam are conducted to determine what kind of worm is present, as many worms do not physically show in the stool. Treat a dog with worms, who might scoot on its bottom, vomit or have diarrhea, with helpful information from an experienced veterinarian in this free video on pet care.

ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
The Brittany is considered a versatile hunting dog, but it shines when it comes to bobwhite bird hunting. If you’re looking to chase a variety of bobwhite birds from roosters to chukar to grouse, a Brittany would make the perfect pointing and retrieving partner.

Although some Brittanies take to the water, it isn’t a part of their common repertoire. So don’t be disappointed if you don’t end up with an A+ duck dog. That’s just not their typical jam. And they lack the double coat found in many retrieving breeds, leaving them more open to the elements in wet conditions. They do typically have a flat or wavy coat, and they do well with a weekly brushing.

Brittanies don’t have the same issues that many other pet-focused breeds do, as hunting bloodlines remain predominant in the breed. But it’s important to have pups checked for hip dysplasia. Other health issues that occasionally come up in the breed are hyperthyroidism and epilepsy. So ask your breeder for thyroid and hip exams prior to bringing your new pup home.

Dot and Lily’s Great Day Coveys | Oklahoma Quail Hunting

January 27, 2024 was a great day of bobwhite hunting for the dogs and I. The dogs found 6 coveys in 3 walks that day. Lily found 2 on each of her two walks. Dot found 2 on her one walk (I failed to get one of her coveys on video due to a screw-up by the camera operator). I’ve posted all the coveys individually but wanted to put them together so I don’t forget that day. I hope you enjoy them.
