How to train a Rottweiler Puppy

In this video, I cover a few foundation training exercises with a Rottweiler puppy. You will learn tips on how to train young puppies through positive reinforcement. When training puppies, I like to use a lot of reinforcement in early the training period. I will incorporate lots of food treats and often use their kibble in training.
I believe strongly that if you create a fun positive association with training at an early age, you will have a dog that enjoys training even without food later in life because you have created a strong foundation in which they love to learn and train.
Rottweilers are one of my favorite breeds to train, but it is crucial that you train them. Rottweilers need sufficient exercise, mental stimulation, and an owner that will be very clear what is acceptable behavior.

“How To Crate Train a Puppy” Done Right It’s Not Cruel, Getting Puppy To Like Crate

How To Crate Train a Puppy, What you will learn in this video is how to avoid ever letting your puppy out of the crate when crying without being cruel, and this also applies to every single aspect of puppy training.

“How To Crate Train a Puppy” Done Right It’s Not Cruel, Getting Puppy To Like Crate

What is crate training?

Used properly, a crate is a highly effective short-term solution for managing and training your puppy. If you start to train your puppy early on to be content in a crate, you’ll provide a safe, cozy place that he or she can call their own and sleep in at night without crying.

How To Crate Train a Puppy When Crying?

You want to be avoid ever letting your puppy out of the crate when crying, but there are five important rules to follow to getting your puppy to like the crate.

1. Make sure he doesn’t need the toilet. Pay attention to how long it’s been since your pup went potty. Remember that they need several bathroom breaks and can’t hold it for long.

2. Be sure your puppy isn’t crying because it’s thirsty as can be and desperate for water.

3. When was the last time you feed him, check to make sure he’s not hungry as can be.

4. He’s actually been exercised and he’s tired out. You don’t want to put a wide awake puppy locked up in a crate.

5. Is he warm enough, is he safe.

Is Crate Training Cruel?

It can be if done wrong, It’s wise to go through the process of teaching our puppy that their crate is a special happy place all of their own, a place where only good things happen all the time, or at least most of the time, so they become willing and even look forward to spending calm, relaxed time there.

If we keep our puppy in their crate for long periods of time or worse yet use their crate for punishment. Guaranteed you pup is going to hate it.

How Long Does It Take To Crate Train A Puppy?

Quite honestly there is no definite answer to this question. Depending on your puppy’s personality and how things go, this whole process could take a week or 2 weeks, a month or longer. It varies wildly from dog to dog.

But on the other hand, With consistent, well-planned strategic planning and training, the majority of puppies are happy spending time in the crate within 1 to 3 weeks of using the crate. This also applies to How To Crate Train a Puppy Fast.

How To Crate Train A Puppy?

If you watched the video here you’ll learn only good ways to teach that have your puppy learning without you having to add any force what so ever.

– Make sure the crate is comfortable and above all… Safe!
– Position the crate out of direct sunlight, away from heat sources and not in the path of any drafts.
– Line the bottom of the crate with bedding, blankets or whatever bedding you’ve decided to use. You want to make it very inviting and comfortable to lay in.
– Always think about safety…Before ever allowing your puppy into the crate, make sure they have nothing on. No collar or leash, absolutely nothing! These can snag, get caught up on something and can choke your puppy.

Initially you should have the crate all ready set up and fix the door so it will always stay open or remove it if you can. If it shuts on your puppy, they most likely will panic and you do not want that.

How To Crate Train A Puppy At Night?

Make sure your puppy is tired before bed. If your puppy is fully rested before you put them to bed, they’re going to be wide awake, full of beans and ready for play and attention.

Therefore you want to make sure they are completely tired out and ready for sleep at the appropriate time. Keeping them on a regular sleep schedule is a good idea to speed up the process.

Never React To Or Reward The Crying

The worst thing you can do and unfortunately the most common mistake people make is to worsen the situation by going to their crying puppy, to reassure them and maybe even let them out of the crate just to get a moment’s peace. Wrong move!

If your puppy whines at night and you go to them, they quickly learn that all the noise works and will in future try the same trick, even if they have to go on for hours.

And don’t scold or punish your puppy either. They’re only acting naturally so punishing them is immensely unfair. But make sure you follow the five important rules listed above.

Note that puppies will start to try and train you at 8-weeks old.

How to Teach a Puppy to Walk on A Leash | Dog Training Tips and Tricks

www.yourk9stateofmind.com

This video is a tutorial on the basics of the best way to teach a puppy how to walk on a leash. Using a slip collar or slip lead, you can easily communicate to your puppy what you want. Using the leash and collar as a communication tool. So the leash becomes a language of “Pressure” and “release”. This method works on puppies from 5 weeks old and beyond. When you get a puppy they should be at least 6 weeks old. Preferably 8 weeks old. But as long as your puppy is at least 5 weeks old, this simple and effective technique will work. Remember to be gentle and patient. The key to this is patience and consistency. Never stop your forward movement because your puppy is plopping like a potato or yelping. It will sound and look really bad in the beginning but if you can push through that first few minutes, you will quickly have a puppy who can not only walk on a leash but also learn anything else to do with the leash!

• Feed your dog on a regular schedule which will eventually be
twice a day, about 10-12 hours apart. After he eats or drinks
anything, take him to the potty place.

• Withhold water for two to four hours before your dog goes to bed.

• Just prior to going to bed, take him to the potty place.

Dogs have to learn bowel etiquette much quicker than humans, and these helpful steps will make sure your paper-trained pooch becomes man’s best friend, not your carpet’s worst nightmare.

Step 1: Be patient
Muster your patience—heaps of it, if you’re training a puppy. Puppies will have a hard time fully controlling their bowels and bladders for at least 6 months.

Tip
If the weather and circumstances permit, you can paper-train a dog at the same time as you’re housebreaking her.

Step 2: Install puppy gate
Confine your puppy or dog to a small area—preferably one with an impervious floor such as tile or vinyl—by installing a puppy gate. Choose a part of your house where you spend lots of time, so your pooch won’t feel lonely.

Step 3: Line floor w/ newspaper
Line the floor with plenty of newspaper.

Tip
Newspapers run out fast when there’s a puppy in the house! Your neighbors may have a stash they can give you.

Step 4: Set up training area
Put the puppy’s bed, toys, and food and water bowls in the training area as well.

Step 5: Give her a treat
Whenever your dog eliminates on the newspaper, give her a treat. The puppy will eventually equate doing her business on the paper with being rewarded.

Step 6: Replaced newspaper
Replace the soiled bits with clean paper. Your puppy might want to play with the nasty paper, so check from time to time that the entire floor is still covered.

Step 7: Remove newspapers
Dogs generally dislike going to the bathroom near where they eat and sleep, so they’ll eventually begin to do their business in one specific area. Once your dog has been doing this for a few days, gradually remove all newspapers except in this area.

Step 8: Let dog out of training area
After the dog is reliably using only one small patch of newspapers, you can begin letting her out of the training area into other parts of the house.

Step 9: Watch for signs
Watch for signs that your dog needs to use the paper—squatting, circling, or sniffing the floor. You can then rush her to the papered spot. Remember that puppies need to eliminate frequently—about every 45 minutes.

Step 10: Move on to housebreaking
Unless you live in the top floor of a high-rise and have a tiny dog, paper-training is just the first step. Now you and your pet are ready to move on to housebreaking!

Did You Know?
A small dog that’s been paper-trained can also be trained to use a litter box, which is helpful for homebound or elderly dog owners—or owners who like to sleep in!
