How to Troll for Smallmouth Bass (With Fast Fish-Catching Action)

Today we’re out on the water with Enzo out on Lake Eerie’s eastern basin at 5am, trolling for smallmouth bass.

We’re trolling with the misty minnows, which are realistically shaped crankbait minnows. I’m using a medium natural colour, and Enzo is using the silver blue.

We’re looking for smallmouth today and we’re going to troll for them through about 10 feet of water or shallower, ideally between 6 and 12 feet. The medium misty minnows drive about 6 feet, so they are perfect for trolling for smallmouth bass, keeping us down to the bottom.

We’re going to troll as slow as we can, which is about 3mps with our outboard. We’re going to work our way around the shoreline.

Today’s episode is loaded with great trolling for smallmouth bass paired with lots of fish catching action!

  1. im from panama and i make kayak fishing i use this lure in open waters just kidding and suddenly i got a mahi mahi hitting it it was 34 pounds i have a big fishing store in panama central america and i will love to sell this lures how can i talk with the supplier. This will be use for peacock bass fishing

  2. I have never fished Erie. Where is a good spot to launch the boat to have this kind of action. Not looking for your honey hole exactly but don't want to be fishing dead water either after a 4 hour drive!!
    Thanks

  3. Early on when lake is calm in 10ft water you could almost use surface lures like jitterbugs or poppers. Surface breaks are great, you got some nice smallies that morning on the misty minnows!

  4. I need to get me some of those minnows and try for smallies. I dont have a boat but i have a kayak. Are you at a reasonable distance from shore? Any suggestions on where to launch?

  5. Your hooks seem sharp….are they good right out of the pkg., or did you touch them up beforehand? Did you ever make an instructional vid on hook setting? enjoy all your vids 🙂
