Myself and Zack put in around 9am and headed to some producing spots in Rattlesnake Bayou, only to catch a few small ones. We finally got into em up in Halls Mill Creek around noon, under and around lilly pads with spinnerbaits and t-rigged lizards. A great day of Bass fishing! In this episode Andy and I cover what areas to target on the California Delta for winter time bass. Since we are nearing the end of winter we also target transition areas like we did on the prior episode. We fished jigs, texas rigs & wacky rigs for the most part as that’s what was working best that day. The key since we had to fish the tail end of a front was slowing down and focusing on bottom fish. 90% of our catches came when the bait reached the bottom or dead sticked the worms for a few seconds. When ended up with around 21lbs for our best 5 fish, so sit back and enjoy! Please remember to like and comment, thanks guys!

Handlining Winter Bass — Tip-up Ice Fishing

Thanks for watching today’s video. Sorry it took me so long to get a new one up. I’ve been busy on that work and fishing grind, but I love it! Huge S/O to Dan for showing me around his local pond waters and doing 99.9% of the tip-up labor. This dude is basically a guide when it comes to tip-up fishing. I know that this may not be the most eventful video yet but I still hope you enjoyed! Tune in for some ice fishing as this LONG Illinois winter pushes on. Stay tuned homies.

The Michael “Ike” Iaconelli BASS Elite Series Table Rock Lake Recap

The featured products Ike used at the Table Rock event are available at Tackle Warehouse –

After the BASS Elite Series event at Table Rock, Ike sat down for a minute to discuss some of the lures and techniques that he used to propel himself to 33rd place. The first bait that Ike used during overcast, windy conditions was the Molix Water Slash paired with a Berkley Havoc Beat Shad to coax bass into biting. In calmer conditions, Michael employed the Rapala Scatter Rap Deep in the Mule color to produce some reaction bites in slightly deeper waters. Keep it tuned into the Tackle Warehouse VLOG channel to get more exclusive tips and techniques from your favorite anglers.

Offering a first-hand account of the biggest tournaments in bass fishing, the Tackle Warehouse Tournament Re-Caps provide tips, tactics, and tackle used by the TW pro-staffers on both FLW and Bassmasters Elite Series Events. How to fish a Ned Rig for Winter Bass by 1Rod1ReelFishing

Try out the Ned Rig, my goto pond bait for cold water bass!

Recommended gear – 6′ or 6’6″ light to medium power spinning rod/fast or extra fast action. Use light line 10 lb braid (with a fluorocarbon leader) or 6-8 lb fluorocarbon or monofilament

1/16 ounce to 1/8 ounce mushroom jighead with a 3″ stick bait reduced to 1.5″ to 2″

Tips – When fishing in cold conditions, the memory of fluorocarbon and monofilament can become troublesome. Therefore, try braided line in really cold weather for a tangle free fishing day!

Effective water temps – I prefer the ned rig in really cold or really warm water temperatures 37 – 45 degrees or 80 – 90 degrees

Ideal conditions -The clearer the water and the tougher the conditions, the more effective the ned rig will be compared to other finesse baits!

Colors – Natural translucent colors for clear water – watermelon seed, watermelon red, translucent brown. Try opaque colors in stained water like green pumpkin or green pumpkin magic.

Hookset – With finesse gear and light wire hooks, you want to avoid strong hooksets which can bend out the hooks. Try a light sweeping hookset or simply reeling in the bait with the rod tip up when you get a bite.

Note: When the water is cold, the bites will often feel very subtle. Either you won’t feel anything and you’ll see your line move off to the side, or you’ll feel a light “tick” when the bass picks up your bait. You probably won’t feel that classic “thump” as you would during the warmer months of the year.

Retrieval – I like to fish the ned rig similar to a shaky head. Drag it along the bottom a few inches at a time, and shake it when you get to a rock/stump. The colder the water, the slower the retrieve and include deadsticking (not moving/shaking the bait) the bait up to 20 seconds as the water temp drops below 45 degrees.

Where not to use the bait – Muddy water, where the visibility is less than 15 inches. The ned rig is a visual finesse technique, the bass must be able to the bait for this rig to be effective.

—————————————-—————————————-——————————–

Lures Used: Bass pro shops shroom jighead (1/8 ounce) with a 3″ bps stick-O (watermelon seed)
Rod/Reel/Line used: Shimano JDM Aldebaran BFS XG Limited (8:0:1 – 10 lb suffix 832 braid, 12 lb seaguar tatsu leader) with a BPS Bionic Blade micro 6’6″ med/fast

Location: Ellicott City, Maryland
Date: December 5th, 2015
Primary Pattern: Slowly fishing the ned rig in shallow water adjacent to deeper water
Time Fished: 2:30 pm – 5:00 pm
Air Temp: 48 degrees

Water Clarity: 18 inches
Conditions: Sunny with winds from the SE up to 4 mph

Overview – Wasn’t even planning on fishing today, but I woke up saw the clouds, felt the warm weather, and was like, “damn, I gotta fish today.” I would’ve been up and out on the water earlier, but spend the night at my girlfriend’s place, so of course we went to sleep late after a “netflix and chill night – Andrew Flair style.” Everyone can blame Emily for this video not having as many fish caught as I would have if I had gotten on the water in time for the morning bite like I would have preferred 😛

It was really cool (and spooky) fishing in the intense fog. Very appropriate since we just celebrated halloween. The somewhat stained water and low light conditions called for a bait that could be easily seen/heard. My pearl/chartreuse super spook jr. with loud rattles did the trick as I fooled a chunky 1.5 lber to taking my bait after 30 minutes or so.

I figured there would be fish hanging around the shallowest part of the lake where the creek runs in, and I was surprised that I wasn’t able to entice any strikes. I worked my way towards the middle of the lake when I got my biggest fish of the day at one of my most productive spots. A bottle neck that bass like to school up around especially when its windy. Got that one on one of my favorite shad imitating baits, a lucky craft pointer.

I only had time to fish for another 90 minuets or so after that bass since I had to prepare for my trip to Ohio to fish with Jon B. But I did manage a couple small dinks to round out my morning, a fish a fish right? All in all, was super glad I managed to get a couple hours of fishing in on this beautiful November morning, not sure how long this amazing weather will hold out for, then I’ll want to kill myself once ice starts forming 🙁

Is Fishing For Spawning Bass Wrong?

I want to pose the question, is it wrong to go bass fishing for spawning fish? On a recent bass fishing trip to a big east texas lake after a hard cold front, I found that bed fishing was one of the only ways to get these largemouth bass to bite. Over the coarse of filming some other video there the day before, I saw 3 bass over 7 pounds in the shallows, including a giant bass I believed to be over ten pounds. The colder water in the lake down on the southern in was holding many more spawning bass, but with the lake wind advisory, we weren’t able to get down there. We ended up fishing shallow shoreline grass lines with with swimjigs and spinnerbaits but only catching small fish. I found a few pairs of spawning fish on beds and was able to fish a jig and creature bait on the beds to get the fish to bite, but the bigger female bass were very stubborn and wouldn’t eat. I wan’t to know your opinions on bed fishing for bass and what do you think the consequences are. Is it really that bad for the future of fishing?
