Deep Crankbait Tips For Summer Bass Fishing!

The crankbait bite is already starting! Get ahead of the bite this year instead of being the guy playing catch up! Every year the transition from post spawn to full summer pattern happens in the blink of an eye. One minute we’re talking about bed fishing, the next its all ledge fishing, crankbaits, and topwater.

Deep cranking is one of the best ways to consistently load the boat with bass during the Summer months. The bite will start now and typically run all the way into September or October depending on the lake. The key to consistently catching bass on deep cranks is to adapt size and color of the baits to changing conditions.

This year we want you to focus on fine tuning your presentations at different depths. Below is a list of baits and equipment that we personally use for this application.

  1. Great video. I just became obsessed with buying deep diving cranks after I landed a huge bass at a depth I never would have thought it would be at. Was slow trolling in 25ft of water for striper, and after the bite died down I decided hm lets try this crank see what happens, slow trolled it and bam got hooked up, and pulled out an 18” largemouth from basically the middle of the lake. It wasnt a striper and I was shocked to find a largemouth at that depth and location. But now I am hooked on cranks! Only downfall is I have lost alot of nice cranks on underwater trees.

  2. loomis 845 cbr always a good choice and a staple in my arsonal, but my new favorite is the ONE3 Fate Chrome Crankbait Casting Rod 7'9" i would like to see you guys review a few products from 13 fishing been finding a few gem's in there rod line ups that won't break the bank.

  3. Probably a dumb question but I'll ask it anyways is it better to use a baitcaster Rod when using crank baits and other hard plastic lures or even soft plastic lures I've only ever experienced with spinning rods

  4. This video was timed perfect. Today went out to one our local Texas lakes that bass had been in post spawn shallow feed mode a few weeks ago and today that bite was GONE found them in 15’ on ledges and used 6XD’s to catch them. As always great videos thanks for sharing your knowledge.

  5. I change almost all the hooks on all hardbaits. I like the short shanks on diving baits and regular on top. Gamy, owner and mustads are my top 3 but those Berkley fusion 19 trebled make a heck of choice for topwater baits.

  6. Crazy I tied on a crank bait for the first time cus I seen this video this nothing fancy a Yamamoto one from dicks killed at the delta this morning between 2-6 feet range biggest one was 3.5 lbs and 4 1 pounders.CRANK BAITS rule the world

  7. Have you guys tried the Kistler Feel n Reel for cranks yet? I know you guys try a ton of rods. It's got a glass tip and graphite backbone. I'm just getting into the deep cranking and was thinking about picking one or two up.

  8. Hey guys, don't forget the St Croix mojo crankster (that we see on the vidéo 😉 ) ! Wonderful vid as usual. Very useful for waters far from yours (I am un France 🇫🇷 ). Cheers

  9. Rather than always covering all the tackle sitting in one spot why not Show how and where to fish these baits?? That’s where the magic happens.

  10. You can try trolling deep cranks. You can cover a lot of water and the bait will stay in the right depth almost all the time. 😉 I read about it on Bill Murphy's book "In Pursuit of Giant Bass", but never done it because I don't have a boat. In early summer he would speed troll crankbaits more than using his favorite technique (stitching plastic worms). Can you make a video about fishing deep cranks? Showing a map with some examples of good spots for catching big bass on deep cranks and showing you fishing and catching big bass on those baits.

  11. I get a mid range one and just play with my rod. Tip up for closer to the surface, tip down for deeper. And I "take a knee" to reach even deeper depths. No need to break the bank for the application you're using

  12. Never deep cranked before I have two lowrance hds 8 and wanna figure out how to find and locate these fish in the 12-25 foot range. Maybe y’all could do a video on how to read your graphs and find the fish. It would be very helpful.
